How You Can Help

We're not a membership organization, however,
there are a number of ways you could become involved.

Donate

Please help PARC continue this vital work for human rights and social justice by making a financial contribution. As i'm sure you are aware, this work is an uphill battle and we need all the grassroots support we can get.

Make a tax-deductible contribution using our secure donation form.

Volunteers and Interns are needed to work on current PARC projects and initiate new ones. Become part of the vital community of activists fighting the prison industrial complex and learn valuable skills in web design & publishing, fund raising & grant writing, outreach & education. Academic credit is available.

Other Ways to Help at PARC:
  • You could attend any of our monthly educational events, and help us to raise awareness by doing outreach in your community;
  • If you are not in the area, and you have web skills or wish to answer prisoners' letters (both of which require a certain time commitment), you could work from home on our Webcrew or Prisoner Support Program;
  • Of course, we encourage you to help us build this movement, to use our resources and sign up on our internet mailing list (see http://prisonactivist.org/mailman/listinfo/prisonact-list/) even if you can't do any of the above.

10 Things You Can Do to Support the Struggle for Prisoners' Rights:

1) Contact a prisoners' rights organization and volunteer your time. (See our Groups page for a comprehensive list of organizations.)

2) Read and respond to newspaper stories. Write letters of encouragement for sympathetic editorials and challenge tough-on-crime op-eds.

3) Keep informed about relevant bills/laws and contact your representative to voice your opinion. The following organizations provide guidance in identifying and contacting lawmakers: FAMM (Families Against Mandatory Minimums) www.famm.org and League of Women Voters http://congress.nw.dc.us/lwv/

4) Come to demonstrations and other events as a show of support and to be connected to those who do this work.

5) Challenge those around you who subscribe to stereotypes about prisoners.

6) If you are an employer, consider hiring former prisoners for job vacancies.

7) Invite a prisoners' rights activist to speak at your organization's function.

8) Make a monetary donation to a prisoners' rights organization. Most of these groups have very limited resources.

9) Donate supplies (furniture, computers, equipment.)

10) Become a pen pal to a person in prison.
