LORETTA GOINS

The information below was taken from a leaflet sent to us by Carol Strick in Florida. She exchanges letters with Ms Goins and is actively working tot change conditions for her.

In October, 1994, Loretta Goins, 28 years old and a prisoner in Marianna FCI in Florida, slashed her wrists. She had tried to call for a guard or the physicians assistant to talk to about being depressed, but she was ignored. The official response to her suicide attempt was 23 days in four way restraints with only peanut butter/jelly sandwiches to eat. Body cavity searches were conducted (WHY??) while she was in restraints. Nobody was permitted to talk to her. Loretta documented her abuse with names, days and times.

A judge in Florida sent an FBI agent to investigate, but he only accused Loretta of exaggerating. Since then, the guards have moved her in and out of isolation. Once because they allegedly found matches in her cell (104 days) and another time for allegedly insulting the warden. The existence of harassment without warning is a normal scheme in prisons, leaving people unnerved, fearful and disoriented.

Please write to the new warden, Sal Sanez, 3625 FCI Road, Marianna FL 32446 asking for information on Ms Goins and that the prison stop their harassment. And write to Loretta Goins #13024-056, Shawnee Unit PO Box 7006, Marianna FL 32447
