Oppose AB 13! Resist discrimination against formerly incarcerated people

AB 13 (Knight) would ban people with most drug convictions and serious/violent felonies from volunteering at public schools.

This bill is blatantly discriminatory and really targets children of formerly incarcerated people.  Many of these children are in the process of recovering from the loss of a parent over an extended period of time.  When these parents are back in their children's lives it is wrong to arbitrarily ban all of them from
volunteering in the schools.

See attached opposition letter that a group of advocates collectively sent to Assemblywoman Brownley, chair of the Education Committee.

Please change this letter in whatever way you want, just so you OPPOSE AB 13!  The deadline for opposition letters is 4/7/11.
